Historic Apartment in Esslingen
Available 1 June 2026 — $3,800/month, all-inclusive
If you’re looking for a new apartment in the Stuttgart area, you have to visit Esslingen am Neckar. This medieval town is exactly what Americans picture when we think of Germany — cobblestone streets, half-timber houses, a castle on the hill, vineyards in the distance, and canals running through it.
Esslingen am Neckar
Esslingen predates Stuttgart. It sat directly on the Neckar river, and as the town grew, the city’s forefathers added a series of canals that powered water wheels to grind wheat into flour. Those canals now run through Esslingen’s “Little Venice” and the wonderful Maille Park, with its cafés and play areas for children.
The Altstadt has pedestrian-only streets lined with restaurants and shops, cobblestone lanes, and open market squares that fill on weekends with farmers’ markets and flea markets. In May, the Esslingen Wine Hike takes you up through the vineyards with a glass in hand. Throughout the year, the same market squares host the Strawberry Festival, the Onion Festival, and the month-long Medieval Christmas Market — where children watch parades of fantasy characters and ride a hand-cranked Ferris wheel while the adults enjoy glühwein.
The local Fresh Market is a 5-minute walk, held every Wednesday and Saturday. Kessler Sekt, Germany’s oldest sekt house, is 3 minutes away on foot.
